The Mets will be serious World Series contenders with these trade deadline moves

The Mets have been rumored to get Kris Bryant in the upcoming trade deadline. While Kris Bryant will help any contending team, however, the Mets have more significant needs. JD Davis came back Saturday 7/17, starting in his first game since May 1st, and hit 3-4 with 2 HRs and 4 RBI. The Mets outfield is top tier when healthy (Nimmo, Smith, and Conforto). Therefore, there is not a place I’d put Bryant, especially if the Mets need to part with their highest prospects to get a deal done.

The Mets’ most significant team need is bullpen help. In Saturday’s game, the Mets were up 7-0 in the 8th inning versus the Pirates, and the back end of the bullpen surrendered nine runs in 1.2 innings. A luxury need would be a starting pitcher, but Tylor Megill has stepped up big time in his expanded role (5 GS, 2.63 ERA).

Trade deadline deals to make the Mets a legit World Series contender this year:

Trade 1:
Mets get: Craig Kimbrel RHP
Cubs get: Junior Santos RHP (#11 prospect), Daison Acosta RHP (#28 prospect)

Trade 2:
Mets get: Taylor Rogers LHP
Twins get: Alex Ramirez OF (#9 prospect), Franklyn Kilome RHP (#20 prospect), Jake Mangum OF (#30 prospect)

Mets 26 man postseason roster after my hypothetical trades.

Starting Lineup:
1. Brandon Nimmo CF
2. Fransisco Lindor SS
3. Pete Alonso 1B
4. JD Davis 3B
5. Jeff McNeil 2B
6. Dominic Smith LF
7. James McCann C
8. Michael Conforto RF
9. Pitcher

Bench:
Tomas Nido C
Luis Guillorme INF
Kevin Pillar OF
Jonathan Villar INF
Jose Peraza INF

Starting Rotation:
1. Jacob DeGrom
2. Taijuan Walker
3. Marcus Stroman
4. Noah Syndergaard
5. Carlos Carrasco

Bullpen:
RP: Trevor May RHP
RP: Trevor Rogers LHP
RP: Aaron Loup LHP
RP: Seth Lugo RHP
RP: Jeurys Familia RHP
RP: Dellin Betances RHP (if healthy) or Miguel Castro RHP
Set up man: Craig Kimbrel RHP
CP: Edwin Diaz RHP

The Mets should keep as much of their farm system as possible and avoid a trade for Kris Bryant. Going after Kris Bryant might look good in theory, but his production this season is not worth the Cubs asking price.
